A: Russell, no you can't. The .45 Long Colt is an entirely different cartridge compared to the .44 Special. The .44 Special cartridge is a shortened version of the .44 Magnum. You will have to buy either the .45 LC or the .44 Magnum. If you choose the .44 Magnum then you can shoot the .44 Special in it with no issues.

A: Patrick, The Henry rifles come with a "standard" cardboard box. The rifle is inside a plastic bag and includes an instruction manual. I believe that it is further packaged in an outer cardboard box I don't know for sure as the FFL will have to remove it to verify the rifle is indeed inside the factory box and to verify serial numbers, etc. I have purchased two Henry rifles (357mag/38 spl and a 22LR). I can't verify that an outer shipping box was used as the FFL presented the rifles to me with the factory cardboard box open so I could inspect the rifles prior to completing the paperwork. I purchased one of the rifles from Buds and the other from a different on-line source. I personally would pay the small fee Buds charges for shipping insurance. If you ever had to work with either of the major shippers for damages to items, its a nightmare. Having the insurance gives me peace of mind and I only have to deal with Buds. if there is an issue. As to loading, I believe all of Henry's rifles

A: Michael - just get one of the "slip on" recoil pads. Nothing to 'mount' absorbs the recoil, and can be removed in a few seconds when you want to.

A: It is going to be considerably less, as James mentioned the weight of the rifle will tame a good bit of recoil, a good amount of that weight being in the barrel ain't gonna hurt none either, that its a rifle will also make it more manageable, in a rifle you are going to have multiple points of contact with the Gun (Trigger hand, Stock into shoulder, and support hand on the foregrip) I've not shot a 44mag rifle, but I've shot 357 back to back out of a revolver then a rifle and it is much more smooth out of a rifle
