I began research about...
I began research about four weeks ago to try and locate a 22-250 that would be a really good varmint hunter, wouldn't break the bank and had some amenities thrown in for good measure. I think I found that weapon in this 22-250, although before I began my search four weeks ago I knew virtually nothing about Howa. I took a chance and bought this weapon based on the information I gathered on Howa's reputation alone and took it to the range this past Saturday (7 Oct, 2017) without ever finding any owner reviews concerning how well it did anything. I did follow the Howa barrel break in instructions (fire one shot - then clean X 10 - fire two shots, then clean X 5) and that took a while but once complete I was very pleased with the results. I was getting sub-MOA at 100 yards using Magtech SP 55 gr. ammunition - which was exactly what I was looking for. The package had a nice bipod, the Nikko-Sterling scope worked very well and the 5 shot magazine performed flawlessly. The bolt was extremely tight when I first got it so I spent a fair amount of time opening and closing the bolt and lubricating it - it's still a little tight but nothing earth shattering. The weapon is substantial at around the 10 pound mark and purchasing additional magazines won't be cheap however it does exactly what I bought it for and it is amazingly accurate for a rifle at this price point. The Kryptec covering is also a bonus as there won't be much that can affect this rifle in the field. Anyone buying this 22-250 will be glad they did as it is money well spent.
