This rifle is great...
This rifle is great rifle to shoot. 325 grain bullet at 2000ft/second will do anything a factory loaded 45-70 will. The gun is light, easy to handle, with a short arc on the lever action. I believe this gun is superior to a Marlin lever action in 45-70 because of the shorter 454 Casull. You can shoot 45 Colt loads in it. 10 round in the tube that can be loaded two different ways is better than the Marlin 1895. The fit and finish of the wood is not the best. I paid under $450 for mine from Buds over 5 years. Buds was great as always. If you want great looking lever action buy something else. If you want to hunt deer, elk, large hogs, or bear with a lever action open sight gun where the range is less than 200 yards this is a great tool to have in your safe. Because of its light weight and short length even with the 20" barrel it would be a great gun for protection against bear. The recoil pad is very effective in helping with the recoil. Would buy it again in a minute.

I have now bought two...
I have now bought two (2) Puma / Rossi rifles and both do as they claim. One in .454 Casull and one in .357 for my daughter in law last year. The 454 shoots everything you can put in it. I am using maximum full load 45 long colt casings loaded with 17 grains of Blue dot sitting under a Hornady 230 grain JHP. The combo is exceptional and gives great performance at 0-100 yards. I understood the furniture was average . I wasn't buying for looks just pure function and serviceability I get both qualities from both calibers . I highly give my best ratings for both rifles . The 357 shoots best for hunting loads with a Speer 140 gr. JHP over 12.5 grains of Blue dot.. Yes I use a lot of blue dot but I like the way it burns in these two rifles. If you are looking for a real fun rifle to shoot either with plinking loads or supped copper jack rounds I say you cant go wrong with either one. Good shooting and good hunting is priceless when family is involved as a family.

You can't beat this...
You can't beat this gun for the price. Its very functional and I like having the ability to load thru the tube magazine rather than sticking 454 Casull rounds thru the loading gate. Even with the recoil pad, shooting full power 454 Casull rounds from the bench rest can be definitely felt after a few rounds. It has functioned flawlessly with 45 Long Colt ammo which is a lot more pleasant to shoot if you just want to do some plinking. As usual fast shipping and great service from Buds.
