A: You can order a model without a scope, but its actually more expensive for some unknown reason. You're better off getting this one and using the scope for another rifle or selling it. And I know, it doesn't make any sense. But I'm just a customer like you. If I could change this, I would.

A: Its metal, and this is my favorite deer rifle. I hunt whitetail in the north east in a pine Forrest. This gun has never failed me for any distance through thick brush. I always use this or a very similar 30-30 Westernfield lever I got from my Pappy. But a few guns I know intimately and this is one of them. I use no scope on mine, open sights only. I've never missed and the gun has been through briars, snow, rain, everything and still has a smooth like new action. I love these guns.
