The Mossberg 702 Plinkster is a lightweight .22 LR semi-automatic rifle designed for affordable target shooting, plinking, and small-game use. Its 18-inch free-floating barrel is rifled with a 1-16 twist for dependable accuracy, while the adjustable front and rear fiber optic sights provide fast target acquisition and allow windage and elevation adjustments. The aluminum receiver is grooved to accept compatible 3/8-inch scope mounts, giving shooters the option to add an optic. A black synthetic stock with a stippled grip and forend provides a secure hold, and the vented rubber recoil pad helps improve comfort during extended range sessions.

Excellent job, as usual, by Bud's. The Mossberg 712 is… fine. It handles reasonably well for casual range outings, and its overall balance is decent once you get used to it. Recoil management is light, and the gun performs reliably enough for informal shooting sessions. Nothing about it truly stands out, but nothing is disastrously wrong either. That said, the magazine release is a bit of a letdown. It works, but it never feels especially intuitive or confidence-inspiring. It's difficult to insert and, oddly, eject. If you're looking for a budget-friendly firearm for weekend use and don't mind a slightly awkward control or two, the 712 will get the job done. Just don't expect it to wow you.
