Description
Product Overview
The Mossberg MVP Scout is a bolt-action rifle built around the classic Scout Rifle configuration. Chambered in 7.62x51 NATO and compatible with .308 Winchester, it combines a compact 16.25-inch medium-bull barrel with an extended Picatinny rail for mounting an extended eye relief optic. The threaded barrel includes a removable A2 flash suppressor and thread cap, while fiber optic and ghost ring sights provide practical sighting options without an optic. Its synthetic pillar-bedded stock, oversized bolt handle, adjustable Mossberg LBA trigger, and compatibility with DPMS-pattern AR-style magazines make it a versatile choice for field use and range shooting.

I felt it was high...
I felt it was high time to actually write up a quick review on this rifle. This rifle was purchased for the upcoming hunting season, I rather carry two rifles out with me when I go out of state for Hunting. So the 2 rifles that will be carried this year will be the Mossberg MVP Scout in .308 and my AR15 .300BO SBR. I took the Scout out to the range to get sighted in, I found that having the 1" high scope rings puts my scope (Vortex Optics Crossfire II 6-18x44 AO) a bit too high for a proper cheek weld. I found that if you have the same scope or a 40AO scope it will not fit on the rifle with 3/4" high scope rings as the bell of the objective will hit the picatinny rail and not allow the front ring to mate to the rail. With that being said, you could cut the rail if you plan on keeping the ghost ring rear sight or get Mossberg SKU 96206 and replace the rail. I myself will most likely just cut the rail because I do not plan on running a scout scope on this rifle at all, but do plan to keep the ghost ring rear sight. PROS: It's fairly light weight You could mount a split bipod to the side rails this if needed Can mount a predator green hunting light to one side rail Threaded barrel Accepts my existing Magpul mags I had from a previous rifle that I kept. Comes with flash hider and thread protector - Not many rifles come with both. I've found it's either not a threaded barrel, comes with a thread protector or just a flash hider. But not both in this price point. FO front sight! BOLT ACTION! Speaking of bolt, it is nice, smooth and fluid. I'm guessing the addressed some issues with previous versions of this rifle or maybe some people just got bad bolts or actions. Adjustable trigger pull Mossberg customer service is another pro, not for the rifle, but in general. I've sent them a few emails prior to receiving and during ownership of this rifle and they're always quick to respond, usually within 12hr window to 24hr window! Only other company I've had that kind of response with was Stevens Arms and Diamondback firearms! Cons: The extended rail if you don't plan on running a scout scope. (Yes I could have gotten the patrol version, but I did not like that the rear sight was mounted so far forward on it) Removing the flash hider was a task in itself. (See below *) This maybe my own fault so not really a con, but I found that when I was out at the range that the magazine would fall out after a couple of shots. I will be out again soon and hopefully this was on user fault and it wasn't fully seated. Would I recommend this rifle to my friends... Absolutely! In fact my boss, friend and hunting buddy has handled this rifle the same day I picked it up. He liked the ghost ring sight and how it just falls perfectly to the eye! *Removing the flash hider, I called a few shops around me and most thought it should have been on finger tight, it was not. The shop I picked it up from on my FFL xfer stated they didn't have a vise strong enough for this...(what?). Had no other gunsmithing services around me for the next 80+miles. I contacted Mossberg to make sure rockset or something wasn't used, they advised none is used, they're just on really tight with a crush washer. I was advised to use penetrating oil. Well I took their advice, was still unable to get it off. At this point I took my scope off the rifle, wrapped it in a sheet and placed on the floor, stood on the stock and forward of the mag well. Put my open ended box wrench on the flash hider and a small section of pipe on the end of that and gave it one quick jerk and it busted free! Now once that was done, found that the crush washer could not be removed easily, for this I slowly and carefully took my dremmel with a cutoff wheel to the washer. Had to work slowly as to not hit the barrel or the threads with the cutoff wheel.
