A custom rifle it is...
A custom rifle it is not; however, it is a very functional and accurate rifle, capable of killing anything on any continent. I decided to buy one after reading an article by Craig Boddington, https://www.gunsandammo.com/editorial/375-hh-vs-375-ruger/329822 where he compared the .375 Ruger to the .375 H&H using 6 different rifles (3 in 375 H&H, all custom, and 3 in .375 Ruger, all factory). The performance of the round intrigued me: faster, hard-hitting, standard-length action, and as Mr. Boddington stated, the Patriot certainly held its own with rifles costing 3 to 4 times as much, leading me to purchase one. As it comes, synthetic stock and iron sights, it does have very stout recoil but was accurate for my eyesight with iron sights at 50 yds. I decided to replace the factory stock with a Boyds classic laminated stock, with a 1" Limb Saver recoil pad and added Warne QD rings and mounts with a Burris Veracity scope. I know, the scope is more than the rifle, but I figured with the money I saved on the rifle, even with aftermarket stock, why not, I was still at or below the price of the Ruger African. The stock was an excellent fit, and it feels and looks great. The recoil pad was a definite plus, as it enabled me to shoot 16 rounds comfortably, off the bench, also using a wearable PAST ½" recoil pad because of the awkward position of bench shooting. I could have kept shooting; however, there was no need, though the rifle is a blast to shoot. Some shooters have complained about the plastic/polymer magazine guide assembly because they overtighten the action screws and it cracks. Mossberg recommends 25 -35 in lbs. for the action screws and the best accuracy comes at the 35 in lb. mark for my rifle - 1.5 inch at 100 yds with factory loads, though I did not fine tune in. lbs. just increments of 5. I am not the best off the bench, though I feel with reloads I should be able to cut that in half, certainly to within MOA of whatever critter on Earth I decide to shoot.

This gun really...
This gun really provides you with the BIGGEST bang for your buck. Seriously, there isn't a cheaper entry into the world of magnum rifles than the patriot in .375 Ruger. The cerakote is great and gives it a nice look, you also get some snazzy things like a fluted bolt. One spot where you can really tell costs were cut are on the synthetic stock, that thing is flimsy! Drop this thing into a Boyds stock though and you've got something that is on par with the Ruger offerings for half the price. The picture is wrong on Buds and shows this as a model with no iron sights and with a split base scope mount; YOU GET NO SCOPE MOUNT AND IT HAS IRON SIGHTS. I searched the UPC before I bough so I knew what I was getting, but be aware if this isn't what you want. \\r\ \\r\ Overall very happy with the rifle. One word of advice would be to invest in a lead sled or a nice shoulder strap recoil pad because it packs a really big punch!
