Nice rifle, nice price, good trigger, decent accuracy! I settled on Barnes 120 grain TTSX bullets as this will be a Hog Rifle & this bullet will pass thru & exit two large Texas wild hog, sometimes three !! I shop Buds on a regular basis& will continue to do so!

First of all, Buds Gun...
First of all, Buds Gun Shop is always the best retailer in terms of customer experience and competitive prices. Secondly, Remington 700 used to be the King of bolt action rifle. However, I don't think it anymore. Four years, I bought a Remington 700 SPS 308 26" Heavy barrel. I believe the quality and craftsmanship was much better than this one o just bought. Buds Gun Shop processes and shipped the product in a very timely manner. I got the rifle and felt the stock was a cheap piece of plastics, barrel was thread, X-Mark trigger was heavy (5.6 lbs) and not crispy. bolt action is readably smooth. I didn't even try to waste any ammo before I swapped the stock with one of my spare Bell and Carlson M40 stock, torqued to 55 in-lbs. I also installed a 20 MOA caned rail and Sightron 34x44 scope. To break in the barrel, I shot Aguila 6.5 CM, 140 gr rounds. At first, it looked like a shotgun printed in the paper. The barrel got hot very quick. I let it cool down and shot a 5-shot group within 2.5 inches at 50 yards. At that point, I thought I had a bad luck and received a bad Remington gun. So I switched to Winchester Match 140 GR. The group behavior was much better. So I moved to 100 yards, 5-shot group could barely be within 2.5 inches. Pretty discouraged. The factory trigger was really painful and heavy. So I replaced it with a TriggerTech Independent model and adjusted to 2.0 lbs pull. Today is raining but I went to the range to check out the new TT trigger. The first group of 5 with Aguila 140 GR to warm up the barrel. The spread was more than 7 inches at 100 yards. Then I switched to Hordady Match ELD 140 GR. The 5-shot immediately shrink to .55 inches. The rest 4 groups were between 1 to 2.0 inches. I believe the rain may affect the consistency a little bit. Overall, my conclusions: 1. People like me buy Remington 700 SPS is not because we want to shoot this rifle but to build upon the platform. Anything is possible for you to build a decent bolt action rifle. However, at this price point, there are plenty of other choices, such as Bergara B14, Savage Axis, Ruger America, Howa, Tikka, etc. 2. I am glad that "the" rifle can finally perform after I spent $1,200 more, including 20 MOA rail, rings, Sightron scope, B&C Stock and TT trigger, and CoreTac clamp-on muzzle brake, etc. 3. Two reasons I chosen Remington 700 SPS: 1) The previous experience with my SPS Varmint platform to build successfully a sub-MOA rifle; 2) I updated my previous rifle to MDT chassis, so I'd like to put my spare B&C M40 stock in good usage. 4. If I decide to build another bolt action rifle, I am to choose.223 caliber and other brand platform than Remington 700.
