When I heard that Ruger was discontinuing these, I had to get one! This thing is lots of fun to shoot! I've only shot it at 50 yards so far, but with a cheap 3x9 scope it was shooting decent groups. I tried several bullet weights ranging from 215 all the way up to 300 grains. It seemed to like the 240 grain and 300 grain loadings the best. The 240 grains were factory flat nose semi-jacketed hollowpoints and the 300 grains were Hornady XTP JHP's that I loaded myself. Not surprisingly, these (the XTP 300-grains) were the tightest grouping of all that I shot. Both of these also fed good in the magazines. The 215 grain I had also handloaded but these were hard cast lead bullets, flat nose, and they did NOT feed from the magazine and I had to load them one at at time but they shot decent at least. Overall I am very pleased with this rifle but kind of wish now that I had gotten the stainless one instead. If there are any of these still available and you are on the fence about getting one, I'd go ahead and give it a shot. (No pun intended!) This is NOT a "long range rifle" either but I think can still be quite useful under the right conditions. I did NOT notice any perceptible recoil either when shooting from a bench rest. And I was shooting regular .44 Magnum loadings. I do think that the buttstock is a little long for my liking but otherwise a solid little lightweight rifle (carbine). Factory sights are typical Ruger (think base 10/22 model) and so they are inadequate. You'll want to upgrade to better sights or put some kind of optic on this rifle. Bud's as usual delivered a fine product. I'm still going to rate this 5-stars despite my gripe about the sights and the stock length.
