Normally Savage rifles...
Normally Savage rifles take a little cleaning and a few shots to smooth out the bolt, and general function, but this one was a bit of a disappointment. The bolt was rubbing the feed lips of the magazine and binding, that was easily remedied with an emory cloth. The bolt felt "gritty" for the longest time. I used some Iosso bore cleaner on the lugs and rails to smooth it out. The actions screws were not properly torqued. The front was less than 10 in/lbs and the rear was only 15 in/lbs. All in all, and after about 2 hours of polishing, torquing the actions screws, and setting the accutrigger, it was as much better. After about 20 rounds it runs smooth as silk. The included scope and mounts were removed and replaced with a Vortex Viper and Talley rings. The Bushnell engage is a decent little scope, but I wanted something better. In lieu of a traditional break-in, I ran a series of Tubb polishing bullets through the bore, that really smoothed out the bore and it cleans up very easily and copper fouling is greatly reduced. At the range with handloads comprised of 143gr Hammer Hunter bullets, and RS Magnum powder, It will shoot a .342" inch 3-shot group at 100 yards. The stock on the 110 hunter is much better the the Axis, especially in the wrist and its generally much stiffer. the adjustable LOP is sweet. The recoil pad is nice and does a good job taking some of the bite out of the 280 Ack. I found the comb sits a little too low for me for proper check weld and eye alignment, but very useable. As always the accutrigger is great. Zero creep and breaks like a glass rod. It took a little tweaking initially, but now it's as smooth as silk and an absolute tack driver. It may not have came out of the box as refined as a $1k rifle, but it absolutely will shoot with one. Had I not had to polish the rails and lugs, and tweak the feed lips, it would be a 5 star rifle all day long, so I'm knocking off a star. But considering the quality and performance you get for the price, it's a heck of a deal. The 280 Ackley Improved is a fantastic cartridge, right on the heels of the 7 mag without getting beat to death by recoil.

I am a Savage fan,...
I am a Savage fan, however this model disappoints. Bottom bolt release and trigger guard make no sense. Also, no after market stock fits this variation. Buy a different configuration..
