Easy to carry, recoil...
Easy to carry, recoil is milder than I was expecting,. I didn't have any problems with the stock or sights, but I want to change the sights to something harder to damage. For the price, I really like it.

In some ways you are...
In some ways you are buying a barreled action. The stock is bespoke plastic, meaning it seems nicer than the plastic one that came with my Hog Hunter. Coming out of the box the rear sight fell out as it wasn't tightened down. The action came loose from the stock after a dozen rounds as it wasn't tightened either and I am glad it didn't end up stuck in my head. Unlike Hog Hunter, it does come with a metal trigger guard which is nice. You will need to locktite everything and check all before shooting the first time out. I always upgrade to the Hogue Overmold stock online for under $100. Good enough accuracy it seems. After fifty casual rounds the gun was keeping three-shot groups under an inch at 50 yds with iron sights. Good enough. Trigger pull is great. Recoil pad is a chunk of rubber with the assumption The Alaskan will be shot with cold weather gear on, I guess. I really didn't find the recoil of .375 that bad even after a couple dozen shots. Great gun and great price, fantastic weight to carry, poor QA and a couple tweaks will be required, a recommend.

This gun is awesome!...
This gun is awesome! Great quality, awesome knockdown and low price. Bought this gun for a grizzly hunt in Alaska and now it is headed to Africa with me. Yes, ammo is slightly expensive but you will not be practicing all day at a range with it. I have put six rounds through it and can comfortably shoot it twice then give it a break. .375 Ruger is slightly hotter and faster than .375 H&H so that is a plus! I considered a Browning Alaskan model and this Savage was half the price so I decided that since I don't hunt Alaska and Africa every year this rifle would fit the bill. Anything larger than mule deer would be appropriate game for this rifle.
