First the negative....
First the negative. The scope mounts were loose, the scope was not level, and clearly not bore sighted. No big deal, My FFL is a good gunsmith and fixed all these small issues in minutes. Second, my magazine was faulty out of the box. I sighted in the rifle, then went on a black bear hunt, so I just replaced the magazine from with sold over the counter. It was a Savage brand magazine as well, and it seems to work just fine. The positives: First and foremost, it is a tack driver, and I was surprised by the scope, which I figured I would replace after the first season, it is actually a nice scope. I had read online that the Savage Axis typically will not feed Hornady ammo very well. Mine does great with Hornady American Hunter 130 grain 270, rounds. That is all that I have feed threw the rifle this year, and I was staying inside a 4" circle at 300 yards rested on a rolled jacket. Clearly, no complaints with accuracy. I am very pleased with the rifle and would not hesitate to buy another Savage.
