The SIG Sauer SIG556 SWAT Patrol is a semi-automatic 5.56 NATO rifle designed around the proven SG 550 series operating concept. Its gas piston system uses a reduced-length operating rod and two-position gas valve for dependable cycling across varied conditions. A 16-inch cold hammer forged barrel, 1:7 twist, and multi-lug rotary locking bolt provide a durable and accurate patrol-oriented package. The rifle accepts standard AR-15 and M16 magazines and includes a folding stock, folding iron sights, ambidextrous controls, and a Picatinny rail-equipped receiver for mounting an optic.

Great rifle w/folding...
Great rifle w/folding stock. In Michigan you I had to register it as a "pistol" due to shortened folded stock.This Sig is like a good Swiss watch and Army engineered to be one of the best choices and price in this type of rifle. Not a lightweight but fires beautifully, accurately.

I prowled around for...
I prowled around for some time before landing on this Sig 5.56 for my AR purchase. Even though this rifle is not a classic AR-15 design, I believe the differences represent improvements on the original AR design. It sighted in quickly the first time out, and it never failed to fire or eject a single round of the 160 initial rounds fired. The field strip and clean-up was an absolute piece of cake, especially since Sig improved the front takedown pin from the old double-slot type. My only gripes are these: 1) For a $1,000 rifle, it ought to come in a decent plastic case, not in a cardboard box with that cheap styrofoam that breaks down into little foam pebbles. What a mess! 2) The only magazine included is a low-end GI-type 30-round mag. Again, for a nice rifle like this, it ought to come with a couple of P-mags. My gripes don't bring down my review score, however. This is a 5-star rifle right out of the box.

the sig sauer product...
the sig sauer product arrived in perfect condition and performed flawlessly through an initial 300+ rounds....very accurate and sturdy weapon.... My only gripe is: the magazine that came with this NEW weapon is a used magazine...And a "well used" magazine at that....figure that one out??
