The service from Bud's...
The service from Bud's was great. The rifle arrived at the FFL in 3 days. The Weatherby is a well made gun. The model I got was the Vanguard Weatherguard in 25-06 Rem. The Cerakote finish is well done and every bit of metal is coated including the bolt. It is a great looking gun and the stock grip pads are very functional. I sighted the gun in with 117 grain Hornady Superformance ammo. The gun shoots alright, but it is not as consistent as I hoped. I would say they are stretching it with the MOA guarantee. I got several 1.25 inch groups some of them with two shots touching and a flyer. I also got several 2.5 inch groups. I noticed some of the Cerakote around the muzzle has chipped away after the first few shots. My suspicion is he Cerakote was applied too close to the muzzle opening, and that is effecting the accuracy. The trigger is supposed to be adjustable...it is not. It has an adjustment screw, but nothing you do will lighten up the weight of pull. I don't have a scale, but it seemed a little too hard for my liking (around 3.5 pounds is my guess) and I tried to lighten it up. It will not adjust lighter. You can make it heavier, but not lighter. It does have a nice crisp break with no creep. My only other gripe is the monte carlo style stock. It lends itself to getting smacked by the scope. The cheek piece slopes down -- it moves away from your check upon recoil. You might think that's good, but if your face is not moving back a little as the gun moves back, you get smacked. Also the butt pad rests lower on your shoulder than a classic style stock. This gives the muzzle end of the gun more leverage to climb up -- also causing you to get smacked. It is a good rifle for the money. I wouldn't recommend it to someone in a caliber that has a lot of recoil though
