Second time's the...
Second time's the charm: First rifle arrived at my FFL damaged, courtesy of Fed ex, and had to return it to Buds. The second rifle arrived more intact (box damage, but the rifle itself was fine) Wood is absolutely gorgeous; looks like the tiger eye rock, with depth, contrast and beautiful swirling grain. Color case hardening is dull, but well figured. The bluing and fitment on this rifle is perfect. Removed the rear sight, added a Marbles tang sight and took it shooting. Accuracy seemed good, but couldn't really dial it in, as there was snow everywhere, and nowhere to brace the rifle. So I just stood there firing on a gong at 50 yards. Cycling the lever unloaded is smooth as silk, but with ammunition it's a bit notchy. Wondering if this will smooth out with use, or if the timing's a bit off? Have lots of leverguns, but this is my first 1873. Overall, am really happy with this rifle, it's really a beauty.
