So far I've only used...
So far I've only used it for skeep/trap shooting because the wife needs something lighter than my Remington 870 to shoot for fun, too. Gun is very spot on and haven't had any jams unless it was caused by human error (Instead of releasing the charging handle on its own, my brother-in-law babied it and it caused a jam). The Kick-Off system really helped reduced the felt recoil so that was a nice addition. Overall, a very good gun. My only complaint is that the magazine tube spring is a tad tough so you'll need to make sure you PUSH the shell in or else it'll cause a "double feed" a problem I never observed on Remington or friend's Mossberg until this gun. Going turkey hunting with it next year but I'm confident this will be a great fit!

This is my 10th gun...
This is my 10th gun review for buds so pull out a chair and a cold bevy. I bought this gun because, for the past 4 years Ive been shooting basically the same gun in the 12GA version. The A400 Xplor Light 28 KO. I have 3500 rounds through it with zero malfunctions or jams. (I know, because I log the rounds in the owners manual every time I clean it after shooting.) I only used the gun for skeet and sporting clays, and only fed it Remington Gun Club Shells. My scores have steadily increased with each clay game, so I thought it would be fun to shoot a smaller gauge to increase the difficulty. I scoured the interweb and youtube for reviews on the A400 Action 20GA and found magazine journalist loved it and praised it like a 1st born super achiever son. I kept reading and found 5 comments from different people who actually shot it in the field and said it was junk because it jammed every time the pulled the trigger. How can this be, I thought. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. I ordered it anyway. When it arrived at my FFL, I pulled the owners manual out of the case and took it home in hopes to speed up my unconstitutional 10 day waiting period. It didn't, but I learned something interesting. On page 12 it says, Beretta recommends: To immediately obtain superior firearm performance and optimum cartridge versatility from your A400, fire some medium power cartridges first (32g / 1 oz.) Ive always heard people talk about breaking in a new auto-loader with heavy loads but, I've never actually read it in an owners manual, so this was a first. I decided to have a little fun and spent my first day shooting the gun with 7 different flavors of shells. 1st Box; Remington Nitro Magnum 1 oz. Zero malfunctions. 2nd Box; Federal Hi-Brass 1oz. Zero malfunctions. 3rd Box; Remington Premier STS oz. Zero malfunction. 4th Box; Winchester Super-Target (white box) oz. Jammed every single time, more on this later. 5th Box; Federal Game Load oz. Zero malfunctions. 6th Box; Suprema Game & Target oz. Zero malfunctions. 7th Box; Winchester Xpert High Velocity Steel Shot ¾ oz. Zero malfunctions. Every brand cycled fine except the White Box. The first shell failed to eject and, or load the 2nd shell from the magazine into the chamber (White Box). An onlooker suspected because they weren't hot enough (not my words). There you have it, RTFM. D.C.O.A. is a pleasure in itself. You dont so much as clean & lube it, as wipe it down and put a tiny drop of oil in a few strategic locations. The critical moving parts are so smooth, buffed, shiny, and chrome-plated that dirt, grime, and fouling dont have anything to stick to. Easy, peasy, Japanesey. I only have one bad thing to say about this gun. No, its not the price. You get what you pay for. It came with a red fiber optic sight bead. Call me old fashioned but, I prefer the old brass bead look. If youre in the market, it would be simply be unwise to further investigate and consider this fine piece of ash, I mean walnut.
