The Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus J42XZ18 is a 12 Gauge semi-automatic hunting shotgun configured with a 28-inch Steelium Plus barrel and a 3 1/2-inch chamber. Its gas-operated Blink system supports rapid cycling, while Kick-Off Mega and Kick-Off3 recoil reduction technologies make high-volume shooting more comfortable. The 7x7 stepped rib, fiber optic front sight, and integral mid-bead provide a clear sight picture in the field. Finished in TrueTimber DRT camouflage, the synthetic-stock shotgun is built for demanding waterfowl conditions and includes an Optima-Bore HP five-choke set with Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Cylinder chokes. The firearm has a 3+1 capacity with 2 3/4-inch shells as specified by the manufacturer.

The Beretta A400 is an...
The Beretta A400 is an excellent multi-purpose shotgun. It arrived at my FFL from Bud's just in time for a weekend full of shooting. Its lightweight makes it comfortable carrying in the field and it swings easily when flushing birds or shooting clays. I like the large bolt handle and the fact that it is drilled to accept a scope mount if I want to set it up for turkey hunting. If I had one nit it is the lightweight spring rings after the bolt slams closed with each cycle. I just found that odd. I have been wanting to get this shotgun for a while and now that I have one it has lived up to all of my expectations.

I started my search...
I started my search for a dedicated duck/goose shotgun. I looked at several brands and narrowed it down to 3. The Beretta, Remington Versamax and the Benelli SBEIII. First they all held 3 1/2" shells and all came in a camo pattern that I liked. I started reading how Benelli shot high. I can attest to this as I have a Benelli M2 20ga that I had to DOUBLE shim to lower the stock (lower the pattern). Then I was looking at the Versamax. I read more about the forearm being loose. So, I went to Cabelas where I could see it and sure enough, the forearm was loose and made a click. It was at Cabelas where I got my first look at Beretta. WOW! I am 5' 10" and about 190 lbs and this shotgun felt awesome. I went to Buds and placed my order. The shotgun comes in a nice case w/ 5 chokes. When you hit the button to load your shell, it comes forward w/ authority. Much more forceful than my 11-87. At 40 yds, using 3 1/2" Kent BB and the stock modified choke, it makes an awesome pattern that no mallard or goose could possibly fly through. Do yourself a favor and pick up a few like I did. if you choose the Beretta, you will certainly have made a good choice.

Best waterfowl shotgun...
Best waterfowl shotgun on the market. I shoot 3.5" shells and they feel like 20 ga loads. Excellent quality all around. I use this gun for clay, dove, Turkey, duck, goose, quail and bobcat.
