Lets face it. Nearly...
Lets face it. Nearly all moderately priced over/under shotguns are imported from Turkey. Even some very nice and also expensive ones come from the same place. There are currently so many imported under different names that the challenge becomes to find one that you are looking for amidst all the offerings; because they are surprising similar. I ended up with the Pointer 28 gauge. It had a lot of the same features as other over/under shotguns but it had the promise of some nice walnut for the stock. As with any shotgun, balance is important if the shooter is going to bring it to shoulder and be on target in a natural manner. Birds fly fast and if the shooter has to monkey with the gun they will get away. The pointer does not disappoint in this category. It is aptly named. The optic front site was also a big plus, especially the second time I shot it under a really dark sky. The general fit and finish is well above average for this price range. I looked at half a dozen brands at local gun stores for comparison. The Pointer wins. The single selective trigger works well and the selector is positive and stays put. There was one thing I wanted that this shotgun lacks; a three inch chamber. However, after patterning several different loads, the shorter chamber and loads seemed to produce more than adequate results. I know it is possible to purchase more expensive shotguns. I am not sure that they represent a better value than the Pointer. The gun represents a great value with looks and feel of much more expensive ones. I purchased it mainly for grouse hunting but I may pick up some steel or Tungsten shot and try it for ducks over decoys.
