I started out looking...
I started out looking for a new Remington Fieldmaster 870. I have had four 870 Express 12ga shotguns and loved them. After passing them down to my sons I decided I needed a pump shotgun. I decided that the Fieldmaster wasn't for me (the walnut stock was awful looking) so I purchased the Mossberg 500 Retrograde 12ga. It is a beautiful shotgun. I love the corn cob fore end and the blued metal. It handles very well while shouldering and appreciate the 3 chokes it came with. It has been very comfortable for small game hunting. The reason for only giving it four stars is because the pump action is very stiff. It is starting to ease up the more I rack it, and believe me, I have racked it a bunch. I am hoping it eventually becomes as smooth as the 870's I have owned. Overall I would recommend this shotgun. It is a beautiful addition to my gun safe. Just, as with all pump actions, rack it like you mean it!
