Out of the box this...
Out of the box this shotgun is just an impressive firearm. Really like the 8+1 capacity. The grs were straight and solid, the forend tight, and the lock up was positive and secure. I put about 75 rds thru it at the range during my first outing. Birdshot, buck, slugs were all fed and shot no problems at all. The bottom feeding, no lifter to push down really saves your fingers. The gun is heavy but not unwieldy. Heck if you run out of ammo you can use the gun as a club. The standard stock makes for a long length of pull, that although I'm a tall guy, I will probably change out to the Magpul stock so I can accurately adjust length of pull. The forend is not bad, positive in grip, but will also probably get exchanged for a magpul so that it will easily accept a light. I'd buy this gun again in a heartbeat. I have an 870 I use for skeet and upland hunting, but for defensive purposes, the mossberg 590a1 imho is the best sub $500 tactical shotgun on the market.

First Impression....
First Impression. Disappointed in the product. Front sight crooked towards left. Turned out to not even be secured in the dovetail and came off. Cycling the action "hangs" on the loading up-stroke. Fit and finish overall not very bad; but poor attention to some important details. I am returning to Mossberg so that they may hopefully fix these problems on an unfired shotgun. How it passed Quality control inspection on the front sight alone is beyond me. If the issues are fixed; I would hope to expect a solid shotgun for which Mossberg has been known for in general. I should have read the other reviews and been cautious; but because I've had a 500 persuader for about 10 years without a hitch; I didn't expect the M590A1 would be as bad as they said. I expect my issues to be resolved and that all goes well with Mossberg customer service. As for now, I couldn't rate it higher than a 2 or 3. Just my opinion. This review is only on the item that I received and not of what I believe the company reputation and product line in general represents. All companies can put out a bad batch; every now and then. I just hope they make it right. Thanks
