So I recently...
So I recently purchased and received the Mossberg 940 pro waterfowl. The gun was delivered to my FFL in central Florida in four days! That's pretty fast. This a wonderful shotgun for hunting, shooting clays and to me is thing of beauty. The factory extended choke that came on the gun is of high quality. I'm going to try my hand at waterfowl hunting for the first time this year. So I broke the gun down and gave it a good cleaning before heading to the patterning board. I set up a 12x18 duck target at 35 yards and using the factory extended.716 modified choke and some Apex TSS/S3 blended 2/7-1/2 shells shot off hand and put a perfect 60/40 spread down range and put a perfectly placed shot on the target. The pattern was extremely even and no doubt would have folded that duck up in mid air with a great kill shot. I followed it up with two more to verify what I had and decided that I didn't want or need to change a thing. This gun, choke and shell combination was perfect! Now I don't need to go down that rabbit hole of finding the best combination of choke and shell to bring success in getting a limit of ducks. This gun comes with a full shim kit for cast, drop and length of pull, but I don't need to change a thing. The trigger is amazing. It's smooth with a crisp break and light (I would guess about four pound) pull weight. The recoil was very manageable due to the fast and soft shooting gas system and a high quality recoil pad. Folks for under $1,000 this gun is awesome and I believe can hold it's own with any of the high dollar shotguns out there. I highly recommend this gun and because it's built from the tactical 940 platform I believe it's reliability is second to none. Stock parts are readily available from Mossberg and many aftermarket competition parts from several manufacturers. I would give this a ten out of ten. Buy it and you won't be disappointed!
