While Pedersoli seems...
While Pedersoli seems to have a better reputation than Uberti, this shotgun's quality is lower than even the low standard I've come to expect of Uberti. The browning of the barrels is some sort of sprayed on finish, perhaps a powder coat. Some of this finish is on the hook and other lock-up surfaces, and as it wears off should affect the lock up of the gun. The lump is shaped such that it cannot push the bolt back to allow the action to snap shut; you must use the top lever to close the gun. There was rust in the chamber, under the chokes, and in the extractor channel. The "color" case hardening is all grays, no colors. The matting on the rib is mashed in a few spots. The triggers are mediocre at best and have different feels, but the slide safety works well enough. The hammer pulls are heavy and also don't feel the same. The leaf mainsprings are misshapen and fold upon themselves before reaching full cock, and the point of contact is different left and right, which explains in part the different feel. The right hammer usually doesn't fully engage its sear notch, which is another reason it feels different from the left. As with Uberti guns, the hammer steel is so soft it started to peen from the firing pins after only a few shots. One of the hammer screws (exposed head) was tightened with a screwdriver bit about 2/3 the correct length, mangling the screw slot. The action soon became so stiff one could barely break it open. This was in part because the extractor cam was poorly finished and was binding on junk (more, below) in its slot. The cam is misshapen where it bears on the hinge pin, and this surface is grinding off. One of the included screw-in chokes is just enough out of round that combined with the ever so slightly out of round barrels, it won't screw in readily (the other 4 chokes screw in fine). The right firing pin binds some (but functions). Quite annoying is the sand. After we cleaned, deburred, and lubed the internals of the gun, we took it to the range and fired 25 shells from it. When we got home, we popped off the barrels and were amazed to see fine sand in the action around the hook and the fore stock latch. Looking closely, we found gaps in the ribs between the barrels at these points. The best guess is the factory sandblasted the barrel assembly before spraying on the brown finish, and this sand blew through these gaps and into the space between the barrels. We'll be finding sand for some time, I expect. Be aware the gun you will receive is not that shown on the Pedersoli website. The pictures show a third bite via a rib extension: It's not there. The "engraving" is actually completely raised above the surface, as if a pattern was laid down with a tiny MIG welder, with no hand finishing at all. The gun is labeled "Designed, finished, and proof tested in Italy." We believe it is a Huglu double partly refinished in Italy--which explains that missing third bite. CZ will sell you the same for much less. The wood and its fit are better than average, although there is some ripple in the surface of the butt stock. The semi-beavertail fore stock looks good and fits the hand nicely. As I was removing the surface rust from the chamber, I could feel it had been well finished inside. The gun balances properly, and it points well. Because it goes "bang," I'll give the gun 2 stars instead of just 1. Obviously, I can't recommend this shotgun.

Shotgun fit and finish...
Shotgun fit and finish was beautiful, but the left barrel was misfiring a lot. Took apart the hammer assembly and did some fine tuning and now it's reliable.

Very impressive...
Very impressive recreation of a period side by side shotgun. Barrels nicely browned and the CCH shows very nicely. Five choke tubes, ranging from cylinger to full choke. I really like the rebounding hammers and the spring loaded firing pins; opening the action results in no firing pin drag on the fired shells. Screws, as mentioned by reviewers are not perfectly aligned fore and aft, but are close. Fit and finish are excellent, as is the wood. The action is tight, but opens and closes easily. The choke tube wrench is a bit rudimentary. I can't see using it to change choke tubes on the fly for sporting clays, but for setting up for hunting, skeet, or trap, it should work fine to change choke tubes. I haven't yet checked the trigger weight, but both triggers did not seem to have excessive pull weight. The chambers seem to be polished; jerking the opened gun backwards easily dumps the shells, though it doesn't take much time to just pick them out of the chambers if not in a hurry.
