Remington 1187 Sportsman 20 Gauge Semi-Automatic Shotgun

A: the two guns feel and look the same (some parts interchange) the 1187 is basically a updated 1100 with a pressure compensating gas port system that allows it to operate with both 3 inch and 2.75 in shells. where the 1100 would only operate with whichever shell the barrel was chambered for. on a 1100 you could switch a 3 inch 1100 barrel for a 2.75 barrel and the gun would function with 2.75 inch shells

A: The main difference is that the 1187 has a gas compensation system that allows everything from light 2-3/4" shells to heavy 3" loads like buckshot and slugs to be fired from the same barrel. For the 1100 you'd need two different barrels. And from a trap standpoint, that's also a moot point, because the 1187 trap barrel is a non-compensated 2-3/4" only barrel. There are minor parts differences. Extractors are wider on 1187s and late model 1100s. The late model 1100s share the 1187 forend and barrel retention system. The 1100 uses a carbon steel magazine tube, the 1187 has a stainless steel mag tube. (I'm of the opinion the 1187 has slightly softer recoil. It's so close it's really a moot point).

A: Michael, this shotgun has a 4 round capacity tube magazine and with 1 shell in the chamber is a (4 +1) or total capacity of 5 shells.

A: Hi Michael, They're initially about the same firearm besides the ghost ring. Personally I think the Remington holds more value then the Mossberg but everyone has a opinion. The innards and everything are very close to one another.

A: I would have to go with the Mossy on this one if you are looking for a tactical/home defense shotgun. If not, the slightly longer barrel of the Remington could be used for the same and for a bird harvest or two as well. Both Mossberg and Remington are proven platforms and are equal in my eyes action, function and reliability wise. Just pick the one for your most intended purpose.

A: Remington this gun ha been made since the 1965 (1100) with a few modifications it is proven to last and last it is American made. There have been enough made that you will never have a problem getting parts it is my pick of the 2 guns. now the Mossberg. The gun is made by Armsan (www.armsan.com) in Turkey, a collaboration of Khanshotguns Co. and ATA Arms. It strongly resembles the A620S by Armsan and the Cy Synthethic by ATA Arms they are nice guns but what happens if Mossberg drops this model will you be able to get parts if something breaks

A: Absolutely yes Terry. The 2 3/4 Shells will actually eject with more vigor (approximately a foot and a half to two feet further than the 3" shells).

A: lock slide back drop shell in side an hit the slide release shell should chamber if not contact Remington for repair at 1-800-243-9700. Do not ease the bolt forward but let it slam shut (just as it would if you were firing the gun)
