Love the gun. It looks...
Love the gun. It looks great and is a blast to shoot. Like the add says, "Just point at it, and it goes away". To get started, I collect powerful hand guns, like the 500 S&W, along with a 460, and 450 Marlin BFR, and a 45-70 Contender. So I am familiar with a little recoil in a gun, and I must say, that I was very pleasantly surprised by the recoil of the 500 ATI Tactical Cruiser. It was a lot more manageable than I thought it would be. But, I do strongly recommend that you start with a low base 2 and three fourths and work your way up to the 3 inch mags to get a feel for it. I put a tan reflex sight on the gun and it looks as sexy as a gun can possibly look, and it is one of my very favorite guns to shoot now. I had shot about 30 rounds thru it on my first outing, and have not had any problems with the gun,,,,, except maybe one, and it was my fault. I had shot about 20 rounds thru it of all sizes and was starting to feel a little too cocky. Loaded it up with 3 inch mags with 1.25 oz. slugs and was going to rapid fire it AND aim it. Not a good idea. A slight slip of the hand, and the next thing I know is I have a fat lip. But even having a fat lip for 3 days did not over ride the joy of shooting this gun. With 15 triple ought balls in one 3 inch mag, you can literally make things disappear! Not sure, without a shoulder stock that is, how practical is would be to hunt with, but for home defense, and just the pure fun of shooting it, I would rate it very highly. Recoil is not that bad, but do respect the gun, it is a 12 gauge after all. Hope this helps with your decision, Terry.
