Russell, no you can't. The .45 Long Colt is an entirely different cartridge compared to the .44 Special. The .44 Special cartridge is a shortened version of the .44 Magnum. You will have to buy either the .45 LC or the .44 Magnum. If you choose the .44 Magnum then you can shoot the .44 Special in it with no issues.
No the ONLY cartridge you can shoot in the 45lc is 45lc or 45 colt (same round different name) the 44 mag can shoot 44 specials
