Hi Jason, Howa is a very "High" quality firearms maker in particular rifles. They match up in quality and function to the "Big Boys" like Remington, Winchester & Savage etc at a much much better price point. You are correct in that the only difference between the HGR 91222 and the HGR 91223 is the Hogue Over Molded Stock Color.

howa quality is very good I would say a little beret than savage or Remington a little behind the Ruger 77 series where they lag behind savage and Remington is the availability of Aftermarket items (stock mags and others) the only difference between the HGR 91222 and the HGR 91223 is the Hogue Over Molded Stock Color.

Howa is a brand that is made in Japan. They are very high-quality and they produce the action for the Weatherby vanguard. Their rifles are top notch and probably go against a Remington 700. The only difference is the color of the stock. One is green and one is black.

Howa (Weatherby Vanguard) are good reliable rifles. The difference in the 2 you reference is the stocks. I recently had a Howa rifle after years of hard use go sour and used the action as the basis for a 6.5 Creedmoor Precision rifle. The only supposed drawback to it would be the slower lock time (time between the trigger breaking and the firing pin falling) but I really cannot see how it has affected accuracy at all.
