Mike, it will shoot 7.62x51 out of the box with no issues whatsoever Sir. 308 is just loaded to a higher pressure than 7.62x51 so no worries.
Mike, you are good-to-go already. 7.62X51 is a bit less powerful than .308, and the dimension of the cartridge are virtually the same. One can usually find some decent 7.62X51 surplus for better prices than .308, so it will help you in the wallet too. So go for it, and blast away!
You can fire 7.62x51 Nato out of a .308 with no issues the 7.62 ammo is at a slightly lower pressure and will not cause any problems
