Erik, This will in part depend on the skill of the operator. This rifle/cartridge will be capable out to 1000 yards. The sweet spot for a 308 will be 600 to 750 yards. Barrel length plays less of a factor as an accurate shorter barrel can be just as accurate as a longer barrel. It has been noted that a 20 to 22 inch 308 barrel can be close (and in some cases higher) in velocity to a 24 to 26 inch barrel making the additional length irrelevant due to the powder completely burning in the shorter barrel. This can actually make the velocity lower due to more resistance/friction and no more oomph since the powder burn is complete by 22 inches for some loads.
