Is there a big difference between the 500 and the 590. I would like to get this gun with the full stock and the pistol grip vs. the 590 with only the pistol grip.

The 590 is basically a beefed up modified 500. That said the 500 has been made for 40 years with no problems I would get the 500 you have pictured and never have a 2nd thought

The 590 and A1 are parkerized versions and have slightly heavier barrels(Militarized comes to mind). It is not a huge difference, but the 590's are more sturdier built. The Mossberg 500 will serve you well with no issues. I happen to have both.

590 is a 500 on Steroids. Both are great shotguns though. 500 is a little lighter
