An Uberti 1860 Army...
An Uberti 1860 Army steel frame. It comes with a rebated and engraved cylinder, just like the vast majority of those sold to the Union Army during the civil war (the Union bought over 200,000 of this model from Colt). By simply replacing that cylinder with a full fluted cylinder, I have what collectors call a "McCulloch Colt". These full fluted Colt 1860s were the very early versions and that's when the Confederacy purchased about a thousand of them from Colt. So by merely replacing the cylinder, I have either a Union or a Confederate 1860 Colt replica. I believe that only Uberti makes these full fluted cylinders, not Pietta. (I happened to buy my full fluted 1860 Uberti cylinder on Ebay for about $115 dollars). As you know, Howells makes conversion cylinders to allow firing modern ammo in this gun. They will fit and function as well as the original percussion cylinders. The gun that arrived from Buds was beautiful and like all Ubertis, it was sized better and more authentically than Piettas. However, it did not function perfectly. A quick call to Buds and the helpful response was the email and number to call Benelli for warranty. Benelli, the Italian shotgun maker, owns Uberti now. They are the same company now. Within 1 day I had an RMA and a free shipping label to ship the gun to Benelli. They repaired the gun, it works perfectly now, and shipped it back. The shipping to and from Benelli cost me nothing. They paid the entire amount. Uberti makes great guns, these are no exceptions, and their warranty is good as gold. At least for a new gun.
