The FN 509 is a striker-fired 9mm pistol developed from the FNS Compact architecture to meet demanding military handgun performance requirements. Its polymer frame uses replaceable steel slide rails, enhanced grip texturing, and interchangeable backstraps for a secure, adaptable fit. The cold hammer-forged stainless steel barrel features a polished chamber and feed ramp, while the slide combines aggressive cocking serrations, an external extractor, loaded chamber indicator, and combat-style fixed sights. Fully ambidextrous slide-stop and magazine-release controls support efficient operation from either hand, and the MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail accepts compatible lights and lasers.
