I received my High...
I received my High Standard 1911-A1 last week and I've been cleaning and inspecting it before firing. The pistol is a nice, low budget addition to my safe. I have 6 1911's and this one was purchased as a bare bones, USGI style parkerized example. The finish is green park on the frame and black/grey park on the slide, barrel and accessory pieces. The grips are some kind of yellow-blonde Asian hardwood. if they were stained a dark walnut they would be OK. As they are delivered, they are quite unattractive. i replaced mine with USGI brown plastic grips, which fit perfectly and look correct on this style 1911. Trigger pull was surprisingly light and the slide/frame and barrel/bushing fit was also excellent. the insides are coated in thick oil from the factory, so i detail stripped the pistol and cleaned everything to make sure there was no grit or manufacturing debris inside. The interior parts are well made. I'm told there are some MIM parts, but I couldn't identify any. Some of the parts are a little rough and stained, but the contact surfaces were filed smooth and I am happy with the assembly. Someone who knew what to do assembled my pistol. The barrel bushing required a wrench to remove and the whole slide assembly was very tight (good thing). The checkering on the recoil spring plug was poorly executed. The factory 8 round mag seems OK, and drops freely when the release is pressed. I use Metalform 7 round mags, and they fit and eject with ease. The feed ramp is polished and the dimensions/gap between frame and barrel are correct. i have not fired it yet, but I have cycled it with FMJ and JHP rounds and it works well with both when manually cycled. We'll see how it does under fire later. For the price this cannot be beat. If you want a USGI type 1911, get this and some new grips.

Great 1911, looks just...
Great 1911, looks just like its WWI ancestor. The finish is a nice dark flawless parkerizing. The wood grips are also flawless. The one I received was made in the Philippines just like the RIA version. I'm a WWII re-enactor and I can say I am very impressed by this gun. It looks way better in person than in the picture on this ad.
