My new Kimber is all...
My new Kimber is all kinds of awesome. IT took 8 days from order to me picking up at my transfer dealer. But this is not Bud's fault as my transfer dealer was closed for 4 days over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The pistol fits together tightly, there is no slack and nothing that rattles. The recoil spring is very strong and the action is hard to operate and makes the pistol difficult to disassemble for cleaning. I imagine that this will mellow somewhat as the pistol breaks in. The pistol is heavy but well balanced. Did not even notice the weight while shooting. The Kimpro finish is not what I expected. As a stainless pistol I expected it to be shiny. It is not shiny, rather, sort of mottled gray with small sparkles. I like this better than shiny. Really, the Kimpro finish is very attractive. In previous years Kimber sold this pistol with black synthetic grips. This year, there are rosewood grips with partial checkering and the Kimber logo. I had been planning to replace the grips even though I knew they would be rosewood. I don't know about that now, the Kimber grips look pretty good. I wish there were checkering on the front strap. Might have to get that done. I managed to get a decent grip using gloves. I had also been planning to replace the sights. Hard for me to see flat black sights, especially against targets with black centers. I don't know, though, seems like I shot well enough with the black sights. I cleaned the pistol and took it to the range. Shot 50 rounds of Magtech 230 Grain FMJ, 50 rounds of Herter's 230 grain FMJ, and 25 rounds of Winchester 185 grain JHP. The pistol fired every round. I don't have any extra mags that will fit this gun so I had to reload the magazine after every 7 shots. 3 times out of 17 mags the last round in the magazine didn't quite make it to the chamber and I had to push it in the last half inch. Again, this probably improves as the pistol breaks in. It is difficult for me to judge accuracy as my eyes are weak and my hands tremble. But I shot better than I usually do with my other 1911 Compact. Seems to me that the trigger has a very clean release. I bought a solid IWB holster for this pistol and plan eventually to carry this gun. I am very, very happy to have this gun. I have wanted a Kimber since before I started shooting pistols.
