I built a Glock 17 gen...
I built a Glock 17 gen 3-type clone using a Polymer 80 frame several years ago. I'm not a gunsmith, but I do have a few skills. I just wanted to see if I could successfully do it. Spoiler alert: you will probably spend a lot more on parts building the clone than you would if you just bought the real thing. Part of the reason is, because I thought it was "cool," I used a number of upgraded parts on this build. The build was a success and I am able to experience the pride of selecting parts I like, doing the slight machining required on the 80% frame, doing the assembly, and having a firearm that works well. Maybe you, too, want to build your own clone. Well, Polymer 80 went out of business and I got the urge to build a second clone. After completing my research and comparing options, I went with a stripped SCT 17 frame from Buds. Unlike the Polymer 80 frame, the SCT frame has a serial number and must be shipped to a FFL. Not a big deal for me since I added a serial number and manufacturer name to my Polymer 80 build anyway. I still need more parts so I have not assembled the pistol. The frame appears to be well made. It is comparable to the Polymer 80 that I like very much. I went with the outdoor green color and it is truly a military-looking olive green. I would have preferred stippling on the backstrap (like the Polymer 80) but that preference doesn't affect the SCT quality and functionality. Who knows, maybe I'll watch a YouTube video and stipple it myself? As usual, Buds price and service is great.I always go for the Buds cash price by sending a bank check. This process takes a bit of time, but I think the savings is worth it. Overall, I am happy with the SCT stripped frame and with Buds.
