The Smith & Wesson M&P45 Shield is a slim, lightweight .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol designed for discreet everyday carry. This law-enforcement configuration uses a striker-fired action and omits the manual thumb safety, while retaining the M&P Shield platform’s consistent trigger operation and integral trigger safety. Its 3.3-inch stainless steel barrel and stainless steel slide feature Smith & Wesson’s corrosion-resistant Black Armornite finish. Steel white-dot sights provide a straightforward sight picture, and the aggressively textured polymer grip supports a secure hold. The pistol accepts a 7+1 extended magazine or a 6+1 flush magazine.

This handgun was...
This handgun was great! First time out I shot 150 trouble free rounds. I used both 230 grain FMJ and hollow point. This gun fed reliable and was a soft shooter. I am very happy with this purchase. Another 200 rounds and it will go into CCW rotation.

I ordered this Shield...
I ordered this Shield .45 ACP through the QP Program for concealed carry while on duty. It was delivered to my FFL in 7 days including the 2-day air. After my completed ATF 4473 form was approved, I disassembled and lubricated the weapon according to the manual which was included inside of the box. I then tested it at 7 yards at an indoor range with 50 rounds of 230 grain Winchester FMJ white box and 6 rounds of 220 grain +P Hornaday Critical Duty Flex-Lock. The accuracy with both types of ammo was excellent in part due to the design of the pistol. The heavy slide and the finely-grained grip both helped maximize my muzzle control. Although I have large hands, I experienced no problems gripping the weapon securely and aiming it either one-handed (dominant/non-dominant) or two-handed. Also, I could grip the weapon securely with both the flat-bottom and extended magazines. The 2-stage trigger was very smooth provided that I applied pressure to the lower part of it. Although +P ammo is more expensive, I plan to practice more with it more in the future because I felt more recoil with it than with the heavier FMJ ammo. This build of this pistol appears to be very solid. I consider it a positive that, out of the box, the recoil spring assembly and the magazine springs were very tight and offered a lot of resistance. One problem with the pistol is that the 1st 3 letters of the serial number are not deeply etched into the lower and are difficult to read. I've learned to expect some minor issues with any on-line purchase. All-in-all, this pistol appears to be a great fit for my needs and I'm glad that Bud's had it in stock when I was ready to order.
