Springfield Armory XD-S 4.0-Inch Compact .45 ACP Stainless/Silver Pistol

A: it is new from Buds FAQ page "18. I just received my new gun. It looks used, as if it's been fired, what's up ? Many new firearms are test fired at the factory. You may notice residual powder, rotation marks on revolver cylinders, residual cosmoline which sometimes appears to look like rust, etc. All firearms sold as "new" are in fact new in box as received from the manufacturer or distributor and include new manufacturers warranty....no exceptions. Any used, factory recertified, certified pre-owned, show guns, or guns in any other condition than new in box will be clearly marked as such on the website. A: These are brand new from the factory. This is common with just factory testing to make sure they function properly. Hope that helps!

A: Les, As all the other folks stated firearms manufacturers normally test fire newly manufactured guns before they are boxed and leave the factory. This is done for two reason. First to insure the gun functions properly and secondly to "proof test" the chamber/barrel (make sure it can handle the pressure of an actual bullet). Gun manufacturers fire anywhere from one to three rounds to accomplish this. Aside from some burnt powder residue, if the build tolerances are really tight, it's not uncommon to have some visible wear marks like the ones you have observed in you new handgun, even from one round. I have bought several new handguns and rifles from Bud's and have always received a factory new product from them. I'm positive you received a new one too.
