The Marlin Model 980S is a dependable bolt-action rimfire rifle built around a stainless steel, Micro-Groove rifled barrel for consistent accuracy and durable field use. Its black fiberglass-filled synthetic stock provides a secure full pistol grip and molded-in checkering, while the 22-inch barrel and balanced profile deliver the handling expected from a full-size sporting rifle. A seven-round nickel-plated magazine, thumb-operated manual safety, red cocking indicator, and T-900 single-stage fire control system complete the practical hunting and recreational shooting package. The rifle uses a high-visibility orange front sight with a Wide-Scan hood and an adjustable semi-Buckhorn folding rear sight. Its grooved, drilled-and-tapped receiver supports the installation of compatible scope mounts.
