Description
Product Overview
The Pedersoli Springfield 1873 Trapdoor Cavalry Carbine is a faithful reproduction of the U.S. military cavalry carbine that helped usher in the era of metallic-cartridge breech-loading service rifles. Chambered in .45-70 Govt., it uses a hinged breech block and holds one round for an authentic loading and shooting experience. The 22-inch octagon barrel, walnut stock, blued finish, and classic Winchester-style rear sight preserve the original carbine’s historic profile while providing the fit, finish, and reliability expected from Davide Pedersoli.

I had always wanted a trapdoor rifle, so when I saw the Pedersoli on Bud's I jumped on it. I had not seen one in person, but I have a Pedersoli Sharps so I was expecting the same quality. I was not disappointed. The wood to metal fit is perfect. Barrel blue and color case hardening were spot on. I took it to the range with a variety of black powder loads. Using the open sight put all of my loads to point of aim at 100 yards. Switching to the flip up peep sight on the lowest setting gave me the same results at 200 yards. Recoil standing or kneeling was about the same as a 12 gauge shotgun with a target load. From the bench recoil was brutal. The steel curved butt plate takes no prisoners with full power loads and 500 grain bullets. If you hand load use the much lighter bullets and a reduced powder charge and you can shoot this rifle all day long. My overall opinion of this rifle is high. Very accurate, reliable, and a hoot to shoot. Nothing like shooting through 8 2x4's or smoking melons. I have used Bud's for multiple gun purchases and continue to be impressed. Great website, good prices, and always great customer service.
