A great design by...
A great design by Ruger but sadly they seem to miss the mark in their fit and finish. I have Ruger 77's going back 40 years in both blued and stainless and this has the roughest action and the worst trigger. How a company manages to have their quality drop with CNC machinery and modern quality programs is beyond me, especially as they produce their American rifles at half the price with vastly superior triggers. I was able to get the trigger to be reasonable by reducing the sear engagement, polishing the surfaces and fitting a lighter trigger return spring. I still need to polish the action to smooth up the bolt. The gun is an outstanding design and fun to shoot. The gun doesn't seem to feed SWC style bullets, but ogival wadcutter designs feed fine and shoot well. Just factor in a trigger job in your budget. I'm only giving it three stars because there is no excuse for a gun that costs this much to have such a terrible trigger. Probably the heaviest and longest pull I've had in any sporting bolt action over the past 30 years.

New Ruger 77/357... I...
New Ruger 77/357... I had mine out to the range this Sunday... I did buy 3 spare mags and had all 4 with me. I had 1 mag give me issues on the third round everytime. I was shooting handloads. 158grain xtp full house loads with H110 in 357 cases, 158grain RNFP xtremes in 357 cases with 7.5 grains of longshot, and 125 grain fp with 4.5 grains of titegroup in 38 cases... Feeds pretty good but the rings they sent with the rifle don't give me a lot of clearance from the bolt. May end up putting a red dot on it...currently topped with a 3x9 Vortex. Accuracy was decent at 50 yards. My full house loads shot one hole groups at 50 yards, the target 38s and 357s printed 2 inches lower and opened up a bit. Trigger pull is pretty heavy, probably close to 5lbs. I have a MCarbo spring and shims in the mail for it to lighten that pull weight so maybe next time I'll get a bit more accuracy. I dont have a subsonic load made up for it yet so it was still pretty loud with the can on. Sounded about like an unsuppressed 22lr shooting the 38s, both 357 loads were considerably louder, it did shoot tighter groups with the Suppressor attached. Shipping was fast, price was more than wanted but less than msrp. Sometimes you got to pay to have what you want
