The Ruger Gunsite Scout is a versatile bolt-action rifle chambered in .308 Win and built around a compact 16.1-inch cold hammer-forged, free-floating barrel. Its forward Picatinny rail supports modern scout-style optics, while integral scope mounts machined into the solid-steel receiver provide a stable foundation for conventional scope rings. Ghost ring adjustable rear sights and a protected non-glare front post provide a durable backup sighting system. The perfect deer rifle...
The perfect deer rifle to have on my shoulder trouncing through the NC pine thickets, swamps, and foothills. Light to carry, compact for minimal snagging, and shoots straight. I have a Leupold 1-4 mounted traditionally on mine and it's perfect for the hunting I do, where shots are 15-200 yards. I've not tried a forward mounted scout scope ever. A joy to shoot and carry in the field.

Nice rifle! This is my favorite, in my collection. It will be going with me on any camping trips or outdoor adventures where risk of encountering dangerous animals is possible. I like the muzzle brake, but it makes it more blasty than I want it to be, and wish they offered the synthetic composite stock with the flash hider. Kinda annoying since Ruger won't let you buy the flash hider, post purchase, if your serial didn't include it in purchase, and you happen to live in an authoritarian state where know nothing types in power have decided to limit access to things they don't actually understand. At any rate, if you are looking at this rifle, you are likely familiar with Lt. Col. Cooper's vision of a survivalist rifle. This fits the bill almost perfectly. You won't regret buying this rifle, so 'pull that [purchase] trigger' so you can actually pull this perfectly crisp trigger, and see for yourself how great the RGS Scout rifle really is!
