Wanted to wait to...
Wanted to wait to review until I actually took this to the range. I haven't gotten an optic for it, so I shot 60 rounds with the iron sights at 25, 50, and 150 yards. I also brought my M1A standard (with wooden stock and flash suppressor, bought and shot this one in NC but I now live in NY so that one had to have the magazine locked in but that has no other alterations). Recoil between the two was very similar. This review is for the NY Scout Squad M1a: The rubber buttplate on NY Scout squad was actually very comfortable. It was accurate with tight groups (around 1.5 inch spread at 50 yards with iron sights). It is MUCH shorter than I thought it was going to be, even with an 18" barrel. Standing upright it's about as tall as a ruger mini14 ranch. If you compare dimensions with other M1A models, it's actually overall shorter than the SOCOM and tanker models, with a longer barrel and exact same stock, which is the primary reason I got this in the first place. Because there's no "features" on the barrel or stock, it's remains NY compliant and still capable of taking removable magazines. I'm going to primarily use this for hunting black bear in the Adirondacks next season because it's absolutely solid - a little heavy but incredibly maneuverable due to it's size. I really enjoy this rifle.

This NY compliant M1A...
This NY compliant M1A is BEAUTIFUL! It's a great option for us living in states with restrictions. I was also very pleased with the cool soft case that the rifle came with. The rifle itself has moderate recoil for a .308 and looks very similar to the Socom model in appearance (non-threaded 18" barrel). Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.
