This is a beautiful rifle in short. Function is butter smooth. Has a great trigger pull and shoots very accurate. The wood to metal fit is very good and the blueing is superb. It fills the bill for a 73 Winchester. I have put 150 rounds through it and it function flawless. If you want a piece of history buy this. As usual Buds is great and I highly recommend them.

I didn't know it was a Japanese import and not actually made by Winchester. Still it works and shoots well.

Well this rifle...
Well this rifle certainly made me proud to be it's owner. The finish is superb. The wood t ometal fit is good but the wood is slightly proud around the tang. Some say it's to allow for shink down the road. The trigger is a joy. Very crisp and light. I have not done any true accuracy testing but the feeding is perfect. However, be aware that cartridge OAL is a consideration. Some of my Blackhawk reloads are too long to be carried up by the lifter in the rifle yet they work fine in my Blackhawk cylinder. Stick with 250 - 255 gr. RNFP's and you'll be good. The rifle comes with a very heavy coating of light grease / heavy oil to be wiped off. Also you will have to monkey with the Winchester sticker. Getting it off of the magazine tube is a PITA. Somebody needs to talk to Winchester about that! If you've been on the fence about buying one of these I say go for it. They are truly a beautiful rifle. I would recommend looking at some of the videos on YT by Left Thumb Break. He gives you a good look at appearance and performance of an 1873 in 38/357 and 44/40. Here's one that got me going. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ00j5Uc9WE
