Description
Product Overview
The Springfield Armory Hellion is a semi-automatic bullpup rifle chambered for 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. Its 20-inch hammer-forged barrel uses a 1:7 twist rate and is fitted with a four-prong flash hider and bayonet lug. The bullpup layout keeps the rifle compact while preserving the performance advantages of a full-length barrel. A short-stroke gas piston system, ambidextrous safety, ambidextrous charging handle, and reversible ejection system provide adaptable operation for a wide range of users. The rifle includes a five-position adjustable stock with cheek riser, BCM MOD 3 grip, reversible M-LOK handguard, and front and rear flip-up sights. A full-length top rail supports the installation of a compatible optic, and the package includes one 30-round Gen M3 Magpul PMAG.

The length of pull is...
The length of pull is a bit odd, takes getting used to, but once you adjust to it the LOP is fine - in fact, I'm 6'3" tall and I extend the stock out two clicks. As reported by others, the trigger is a bit mushy, but in my view, it's no better or worse than your typical glock trigger. I view this rifle as an infantry rifle, and for that purpose the trigger is definitely a European "mush" trigger but perfectly usable. Accuracy? With both M855 and my 77gr Sierra handloads, accuracy is surprisingly good and is definitely better than my Colt AR15A4 - I'd say, for a military rifle of this type, the accuracy exceeded my expectations. The flip up sights are pretty slick. If you are accustomed to the AR platform I think this rifle will take some getting used to, but if you keep an open mind I think you will like this rifle. I mounted a Trijicon 1.5x16 ACOG with the low mount - this in my opinion is a great optic for this rifle, and with the low mount your eye is almost exactly in-line with the flip-up sight.... which I like, because I shoot this like a rifle with a firm cheek weld. If you are more of a run-around stand-up shooter, the higher mount might work better for you with the higher head position. Also, I'm left-handed, and I do like being able to easily (and without tools or extra parts) change to left-hand eject. Another nice feature - this is really a semi-bullpup, the ejection port is a bit forward compared to other bullpups like the AUG - disadvantage is, not quite as compact as an AUG or Tavor etc., but the advantage is, in a pinch you can shoot this from the weak-side shoulder and not eat hot brass right into your cheek - I think that addresses one of the major shortcomings of the bullpup concept. The safety is the newer one with the angle changed - still a bit awkward for me, but serviceable and no worse than my AR or my FAL. Finally, 100% reliable, no malfunctions. I really like this rifle.

Outstanding buy, my 1st bullpup and it's phenomenal. I've shot British l85 and French FAMAS so it's not my first rodeo. I'll have to get used to the trigger but par for the course with bullpups. Great buy again with buds!!
