Heritage Manufacturing Settler Rifle 22 LR - 20" Barrel, 15+1 Rounds

Heritage may just have outdone itself. The big issue supposedly is that Settler costs just as much or a little more than the base level Henry 22 LR lever action. Well I think the pricing is appropriate. The action of the Settler is just as smooth as a Henry. And the construction is solid too. The wood furniture is solid and yes the breech that contains the action is an aluminum alloy, but the butt plate is steel as it draws a magnet.The cartouche on both sides of the stock are a great touch. It shoots well and has good traditional buckhorn rear sight with blade front sight with a brass bead. The simulated aged case-hardened look is different but attractive. I have to say my two issues with the rifle as compared to a Henry is that although solid and well built, it still is not as ergonomically refined as the Henry as it's forestock has a slight but noticeably bulkier feel. Also the forestock is not quite as snug fitting as should be. I will have to tighten the fit a little. I have never handled a Browning 22LR lever action rifle which I understand is the "gold standard" but I have 22LR Henry(s), Rossi(s), Chiappa, and Uberti and a Mossberg and the Heritage Settler build quality is definitely comparable and maybe little better that of a base level Henry but of course not anywhere near that of its commemorative models (to be expected); it beats all the others out on solidness of feel and smoothness. It shoots great and so the price is not a big deal as you are getting what you pay for. I think Heritage is about to make real run in the cowboy action rimfire market.
