I rarely give a one-star review to anything, but I'm afraid that's where this is going. My wife and I have shot a variety of cheap .22 ammo through our Taurus TX-22, cleaning it occasionally, and it's worked perfectly with everything, clean or dirty. Got 4 boxes of this Thunderbolt and fired away happily until my wife started complaining that she just couldn't hit anything. I tried it and got the same result. Later at home, I was cleaning it and saw lead caked thickly in the barrel, especially toward the muzzle end. Cursing myself for waiting too long to clean it, I brushed and chipped away with a paper clip and brushed some more and still couldn't get it all. I soaked it in oil for a couple of days and brushed and chipped some more and got it looking pretty good. In the meantime, I bought another barrel for the Taurus in case I was ruining the first one. When we took it to the range next time, we fired from the old barrel for a few mags and it was still a little weird, so I swapped in the new barrel and it was great for the 150 rounds or so we fired from it. But when I got home, even the new barrel was already so caked up with lead I had to start the process over. This time I used swatches from a lead removal cloth, but after a dozen or so of those alternating with clean patches, I had to go back to chipping and brushing. Reading online (the Ruger forum had lots of useful feedback on Thunderbolt and one of the Winchester lines, I forget which), I came to the conclusion that they must not properly coat the bullets on some batches. That, combined with non-polished barrels, seems to result in crazy amounts of leading. Five cents a round is tempting, but I'd highly recommend a search on "Thunderbolt .22 leading" before you place a sizable order. After the 4-5 hours I've spent cleaning barrels after shooting this stuff, I'll gladly pay an extra penny or two a round to bring my cleaning time down to 20 minutes every third range trip.

Great ammo for the price.

These Remington Thunderbolt 22LR rounds are priced really well and are great for shooting at the range. I have gone through two boxes of these with my Taurus TX22 and my GSG 1911, with very few FTFs & FTLs. I did had an occasional round that wouldn't fire, but rare. Will definitely purchase these from Buds again. 5 stars.
