This CM line of pistols is one of the more recent offerings in the evolution of the Kahr line of concealed carry pistols. The Kahr CM40 appears at first glance no larger than the CM9. But when you compare these two neat concealed carry pistols side by side, there are some subtle differences, with the end result being that the CM40 really is beefier and has more heft. it truly is both heavier, longer and thicker. The two ounces of extra weight are in the slide, as the slide on the CM40 is actually machine milled out of a solid block of 416 stainless steel. It is a lock breech, short action blow back system, with a DAO (double action only) trigger, with internal safeties, and a magazine catch after the last round is fired.



The internal workings of the CM40 are exactly like those of the PM40. That being said, I’m sure that you wonder what is the difference that causes the PM40 to be about $200 msrp higher? A good example is the barrel. The barrel on the CM series utilizes a typical standard rifling set-up, while the PM uses an advanced polygonal rifling. Both have proved themselves in the field, but the thought is that the polygonal rifling (which is a lot more labor intensive with 16 different lines inside the barrel) provides greater spin, creating more accuracy, and since all of these groves are more shallow, the potential for barrel fouling is less.





The CM40 has an overall length of 5.47 inches, a height of 4 inches, a thickness of .94 inches, and sports a barrel of 3 inches in length. The trigger breaks cleanly at 6.25 lbs., and feels comfortable on the stainless steel frame of the CM40 which has an overall weight of 15.8 ounces (empty). If there is a downside to this pistol, it is the 5+1 capacity, but 6 rounds are all that you get in a standard revolver “wheel gun”, so that may not even be considered as a problem by some. I think that we’ve grown too accustomed to a “spray and pray” mentality with high capacity magazines, when we think about semi-automatics. The truth of the matter is that 80% of all handgun battles are fought at 13 feet or less, and dispatching more than 3 or 4 rounds is a virtual impossibility unless you are facing more than one perpetrator.



A good question to ask yourself when you’re trying to carry concealed, do you want to try to hide a BUS (big ugly shooter), or to conceal a Kahr?
