This is arguably the best made, full frame, mass produced 9mm handgun out there. The cycling action is incredibly smooth and locks up with precision when you rack the slide. The rail system in the 92 allows it to cycle with a smooth and even almost “slick” feel. The grip is nice and full, to accommodate the double stack 15+1 round magazine. The trigger is ergonomically designed to assist the shooter in more of a natural hand position, almost as if the trigger comes to meet the shooter, instead of the shooter going to meet the trigger. This Beretta 92FS is certainly a well designed classic, especially when considering the integrated decocking lever. Once you own one of the 92’s, it will be easy to see why it is the preferred sidearm of the United States military. So what are the 3 reasons?
One, it’s a great gun. The 92 is very smooth, it is reliable, it is well thought out, and easy to maintain and field strip. The open floating barrel design, and highly polished ramp, greatly reduces the likelihood of jamming.
Two, it has a really desirable ergonomic design. At first it may seem that the Beretta 92FS is a little bigger or heavier, but the easy access to the gun’s functioning layout, smooth action, and precision accuracy, will reveal why the military has considered this firearm as standard issue for such a long time.
Three, is the durability. If you go down to your local range and you ask them what semi-auto pistol will last the longest? I can guarantee you that this will be one of the first firearms that they suggest. Before the military contract was awarded, the 92FS was notorious for going in excess of 25,000 rounds before needing to be even field-stripped and cleaned. Should you have a service issue, or simply desire to upgrade your 92FS with different springs, barrels, or bushings, you can find these and other parts for them online, at gun shows, and at your local armorer.
Don’t consider this as an old gun and old technology, they are designed and made to practically last forever. When you pick up this baby and feel it, you’ll know that you’ve got a quality piece of machinery in your hand.
