Well, immediately upon unpacking the new Savage, I found it easily qualified for the lighter weight and easier to handle. But the real test would come at the range. So, I did a quick clean of the barrel and went to the range.
I had thrown a Vortex diamondback 6-24X50 tactical ffp rifle scope on it thinking that would be plenty for both 50 and 100 yard shoots. Started off with just some regular store bought stock ammunition to warm the barrel and noticed right away that this little girl was amazing accurate. But aren't Savage rifles surprisingly that way most of the time anyway?
After about 40 or 50 rounds, and witnessing the occasional flyer, I switched to some Ely Match and onto some RWS - R50. WOW! Is probably the operative word in describing what I experienced after that.
Only shot at the 50 yard range - but seriously - I was tack driving shot after shot. This gun and scope marriage may soon become my go to gun. I know, it's hard to believe I would lay down my old H & R because it does shoot amazingly well. But this Savage MKII is certainly challenging my mind right now.
Simply put - and I am admittingly having some difficulty in the bolt because of a terribly arthritic right hand and the tightness in the bolt, I don't believe you can go wrong with this gun . I like it a LOT and working on a solution which will enable me to work the bolt easier.

A:Hi Rene and welcome. Personally I would get the Savage. It is just as accurate and the $ saved would go a long way towards an good ammunition supply. Either way works. Cheers and stay safe!See 2 more answers | -
