You are correct. Just invest in a good red dot, and forget the sight. Preferably one with the reticle etched in the glass so you don't even need batteries to be able to aim. Something like a Vorex 3X Spitfire

Bud's customer service rep just told me that due to recent changes in CA legislation, it IS COMPLIANT. I suggested Buds edit their list to include it.

I would say, using the 'CA rifle flow chart' the combination of the detachable magazine, that it is an "AR" type, with flash suppressor and collapsible stock would make it non-compliant with California restrictions. It would meet some other states' restrictions, but not California's.

There is no real reason that it would be illegal in CA seeing as you cannot wrap your thumb around the grip as well as it only comes with a 10 round mag.
