Very nice rifle. Arrived on time. Trigger is the best part about this gun.

I'll say it. This wasn't my first or even second choice when I was shopping for a new .22. I was really looking for a wood stock, and yes, I know I can get one on this, but I wasn't wiling to drop $400 on it without laying hands on it first. And that was the problem with EVERY .22 that had nice looking wood in the pictures. No one has them on the rack. BUT.... I was willing to gamble with $250 for a basic synthetic stock rifle with a flush fitting magazine. I picked it up Monday evening, swabbed the barrel, slapped an old Simmons Whitetail Classic on it (the original Granite finish one) and grabbed some Remington Thunderbolt and headed off. The first two magazines were ROUGH. I'm talking 5" groups at 50 yards! I wasn't sure if it was the gun, the ammo, or if the scope had taken a dump. I headed home, more than a little agitated. Headed back out this afternoon with the same box of Remington and an old box of CCi mini mags that I had laying around. After the first 5 shots, suddenly, it was a different gun. I guess it needed 25 rounds to break in, because the biggest 5 shot groups could be covered with a nickel, and more than a few were smaller than a dime. I did a couple of 10 round groups too, they were all smaller than a quarter. Again, these were 50 yard groups. I'll also mention that I rarely shoot from a bench, even when zeroing. I shoot prone on the ground for zero and testing.
The stock feels good, fitment wise. It really needs... I mean REALLY... a rubber butt pad or a textured butt plate. It's pretty slick. I wouldn't trust it to stand up on a hard surface. If it had the butt pad, I wouldn't have a complaint at all about the gun. I'm probably going to end up getting a stock from Boyd's to replace the plastic one, unless I can figure out a good way to get a butt pad on this stock. Other than that, it's money well spent on this rifle. A+++

I think that this is a great .22lr bolt action for the price. (Sure, you can get better groupings with a $1,000 competition rifle, but for plinking with friends, this is a great rifle.) I really like the ergonomics of the stock/grip and the ambi-thumb-safety. The Accu-trigger is also very nice. (I wish the trigger were even lighter, though. At it's lightest setting, it doesn't feel as light as the Accu-trigger on the Savage .223's or .308's that I've shot. Still, it's better than any other trigger on a .22 I've ever shot.) It's a very accurate rifle for it's price-point. I can hit a 6" diameter round target at 100yds with its iron sights using cheap ammo. I really like how slim and sharp the front sight-blade is. The sights were off a little when I got it (shooting to the left a little). It was a bit challenging to adjust, too (find the right hex/allen wrench, unscrew a set-screw, slide the rear sight over, and reset the set-screw while holding the rear sight in place). Still, I really like the iron sights that this model comes with (which, other B22 models do not have). My biggest complaint is definitely the 10-rd rotary magazine. It is a bit tricky to load - not nearly as easy as a Ruger 10/22 mag. And it seems to be wearing out fast; as you load .22's into the mag, the plastic-rotary-follower can develop dents/notches where the .22 first contact the follower, which makes it even more difficult to load. Nevertheless, I and my friends have fired hundreds of cheap .22's without any failures to feed. It feeds very reliably. (No failures to fire yet, even with cheap ammo, and only a couple failures to extract.) Last complaint, the finish seems cheap. The finish on the bolt is showing decent wear after only about 500 cycles of the bolt, but still, overall, I'm very happy with this rifle for it's cost.

A:David, it has an adjustable rear sight as well. The rear sight is actually in front of the front scope mount. https://www.google.com/search?q=Savage+70200+B22+F+Bolt+22+Long+Rifle&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiv3_yD5PXcAhXSVt8KHQVvAYIQ_AUICygC&biw=1280&bih=618#imgrc=OzAPrRpiVZ56YM:This is a slightly better picture here :See 2 more answers |
